SUO 2016: Oral Abstract – Lymph node yield as a predictor of overall survival following regional lymphadenectomy for penile cancer - Session Highlights

San Antonio, Texas USA ( Data for defining optimal lymph node yield following inguinal lymphadenectomy for penile cancer are lacking. In this oral abstract session, the authors sought to determine whether lymph node yields in these patients are associated with overall survival and to define a minimum number of lymph nodes to retrieve.

SUO 2016: Management of Residual Retroperitoneal Masses after Chemotherapy for Advanced Seminoma - Session Highlights

San Antonio, Texas USA ( The management of advanced testicular seminoma is significantly different from that of non-seminoma germ cell tumors (NSGCT). Seminoma is exquisitely sensitive to both chemotherapy and radiation therapy both showing ≥ 85% complete response following therapy. The management of post-chemotherapy residual masses in pure seminoma can be quite challenging since there is a paucity of consensus in the management of this patients especially for those with masses > 3 cm.

SUO 2016: Anatomic Considerations for Nerve-Sparing RPLND - Session Highlights

San Antonio, Texas USA ( In this session, Dr. Power discussed novel insights into retroperitoneal anatomy in nerve-sparing retroperitoneal lymph node dissection based on an elegant cadaveric study. Twenty-one human embalmed cadavers and eight fresh cadavers were dissected in order to better understand the relative anatomy of the infrarenal vasculature defined as the lumbar vessels, right gonadal vein, and inferior mesenteric artery.

SUO 2016: Pitfalls in GCT Management: Urology - Session Highlights

San Antonio, Texas USA ( The management of testicular germ cell tumors (GCTs) is one of the more tightly protocoled treatment algorithms in Urology. Unfortunately, data from the NCCN suggests that 30% of GCT patients don’t get guideline-directed care, and their survival is potentially worse as a result.

SUO 2016: Common pitfalls in the management of germ cell tumors: Medical Oncology - Session Highlights

San Antonio, Texas USA ( In this session, Dr. Feldman used a case-based format to discuss the common pitfalls in the medical management of germ cell tumors. He divided his talk into early germ cell tumors (GCT) and advanced GCT. In the early GCT space, he first discussed the importance of tumor marker timing.

SUO 2016: The platinum study: clinical translational research in testicular cancer survivors - Session Highlights

San Antonio, Texas USA ( Lois Travis, Indiana University, discussed ‘The Platinum Study’ as well as translational research and implications in testicular cancer. Cisplatin has had profound success in testicular cancer, however, there are numerous side effects associated with platinum based therapy.
