Pituitary Apoplexy Following Initial Leuprolide Injection

Pituitary apoplexy is a rare complication of the initial administration of leuprolide acetate.

The authors present the case of a 63-year-old man who experienced headache, blurred vision, and loss of consciousness following initial leuprolide treatment for prostate carcinoma. Neuroimaging demonstrated pituitary hemorrhage.

Clinicians should be aware of this rare but known complication of leuprolide injection so that prompt diagnosis and treatment initiation occur in patients with leuprolide-associated pituitary apoplexy.
