GU Cancers Symposium 2013 - Poster: Bone health among prostate cancer survivors: Long term follow-up from the prostate cancer outcomes study (PCOS), by Alicia Morgans, MD, et al

ORLANDO, FL, USA (UroToday.com) - Androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), the cornerstone of systemic therapy for men with prostate cancer at various stages of disease, is associated with a decline in bone mineral density and an increase in fracture risk. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) suggest that men at high risk of fracture and men treated with prolonged ADT should be treated with pharmacologic therapy to increase bone mineral density and reduce fracture risk.

Bone complications have been described using retrospective administrative database analyses and smaller prospective studies with relatively short follow-up, but they have not been reported using prospective cohorts with long term follow up.

We assessed the relationship of patient-reported bone health and ADT exposure using a population-based prospective cohort of prostate cancer survivors followed longitudinally from 15 years from diagnosis.....Click here to enlarge and view the poster
