AUA 2011 - Persistent therapeutic effect of repeated injections of onabotulinum toxin A in refractory bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis - Session Highlights

WASHINGTON, DC USA (UroToday.com) - Dr. Francisco Cruz and co-workers from Porto, Portugal related further experience with intra-trigonal onabotulinum toxin A in 14 women with IC/BPS refractory to first-line treatments. Ten trigonal sites were injected with a total dose of 100 units. All patients reported subjective improvement following injection which persisted for 9-10 months. There was no tachyphylaxis, and injections were repeated for a total of 4 times with similar results. There were no episodes of urinary retention.
