Radiological anatomy of prostatic arteries, "Beyond the Abstract," by Tiago Bilhim, MD, PhD, EBIR

BERKELEY, CA (UroToday.com) - In this review paper, we focus on the vascular anatomy of the male pelvis and prostatic arteries. Herein, we reported our experience with more than 300 CT angiographies (CTA) and digital subtraction angiographies (DSA) of male pelvic arteries.

The information we have provided reviews our recent publications on the vascular anatomy of the male pelvic arteries with the anatomical classification of Yamaki and the vascular anatomy of the prostate using CTA and DSA. Our findings can be quite useful to urologists when performing pelvic surgery because they provide new insights into the anatomy of the prostatic arteries and allow correct identification of the major collaterals of the internal iliac artery. Interventional radiologists can also find this review very useful as it gives important anatomic references when performing vascular procedures in the male pelvis, such as prostatic arterial embolization for BPH or revascularization procedures for arteriogenic erectile dysfunction.
