Blue Light Cystoscopy with Cysview for Management of Non Muscle Invasive Bladder Cancer
Josh J. Meeks, MD, Ph.D.
Joshua Meeks joins Alicia Morgans to review his approach to cystoscopy using blue light and Cysview®, and how to best choose patients that will maximally benefit from that kind of technology.
Impact on Bladder Cancer of Treatment Delays During the COVID-19 Pandemic
Christopher J.D. Wallis, MD, PhD
Christopher Wallis and Zachary Klaassen join Alicia Morgans to discuss the management guide released by European Urology on how to best optimize the care of patients with GU malignancies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Pembrolizumab in the BCG-unresponsive NMIBC Patients
Arjun V. Balar, MD
Joining Ashish Kamat is Arjun Balar outlining the history of the drug and how the study which led to the FDA approval in NMIBC was designed touching on his approach to counseling his patients who are considering pembrolizumab in the treatment of NMIBC.
Detecting Invisible Bladder Cancers with Blue Light Cystoscopy
Nima Nassiri, MD et al.
Blue-light cystoscopy (BLC) is a photodynamic diagnostic technique that augments the detection of occult disease missed under traditional white light. Instillation of hexaminolevulinate, a heme precursor, causes preferential accumulation of protoporphyrin IX and other photoactive porphyrins in neoplastic cells, which are then excited under the wavelength of blue light (~450 nm) to fluoresce red.
The Use of High-Resolution Micro-Ultrasound in Diagnosing and Staging Bladder Cancer
Bishoy M. Faltas, MD
High-resolution micro-ultrasound is a promising technology in the staging of prostate cancer but has not been well studied in bladder cancer patients. A recent paper published by Saita et al. in European Urology evaluated the accuracy and feasibility of micro-ultrasound in detecting and staging bladder cancer. The investigators studied 23 bladder cancer patients using a micro-ultrasound system before the transurethral resection of their bladder tumors.
