TAT-11: Automated Production of Alpha-Emitting Therapeutic Radionuclides

Ottawa, ON, Canada (UroToday.com) Dr. Abou described an automated generator system for production of Radium-223 and Th227. The generator source is Ac227 encased in resin, and the products are extracted by an automated fluidic chromatographic separator.

The Radium-233 comes out as Ra223Cl2 in sodium citrate/saline solution. Th227 is produced as a nitrate. Ac227 is recovered and re-used for the next cycle. One production cycle takes about a month.
