Nursing Leadership and the Reduction of Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection.

The prevention of infections continues to be a challenge for many hospitals. We examined specific features of nursing leadership and found improvements in leadership were associated with a decrease in catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI). Infection prevention efforts in acute care hospitals should focus on nurse leaders and their ability to provide the support necessary to improve care delivery - support that could be instrumental in the reduction and the elimination of CAUTI.
