Psychometric Validity and Reliability of the Turkish Version of the Questionnaire for Urinary Incontinence Diagnosis in Women with Urinary Incontinence - Beyond the Abstract

In this study, we evaluated the psychometric validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the Questionnaire for Urinary Incontinence Diagnosis (QUID), a widely used tool for differentiating between subtypes of urinary incontinence in women. Urinary incontinence is a common condition that significantly impacts women’s health and quality of life. Accurate identification of incontinence subtypes is essential for guiding appropriate treatment strategies.

We conducted a systematic cultural adaptation process, including forward and backward translations, expert panel reviews, and pretesting for clarity and relevance. Data were collected from a total of 600 Turkish-speaking women. The internal consistency of the questionnaire was high, with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.85.

Test–retest reliability was also strong. Furthermore, convergent validity was demonstrated through significant correlations with established instruments such as the King’s Health Questionnaire and the Incontinence Severity Index.

Our findings suggest that the Turkish version of QUID is a reliable and valid instrument suitable for both clinical practice and future epidemiological research. Given the lack of culturally adapted assessment tools in the Turkish healthcare setting, our study helps fill this gap by offering clinicians a practical and psychometrically sound diagnostic aid.
