Introduction to Imaging of Penile Prostheses: A Primer for the Radiologist

The purpose of this article is to provide radiologists with an introduction to the imaging appearances of various types of penile prostheses and discuss imaging pitfalls.

Two major types of penile prostheses currently are in use: malleable penile prostheses and inflatable penile prostheses. Sonography is useful in the assessment of the pelvic reservoir and scrotal pump. MRI helps in the complete evaluation of all the prosthetic components, making it a "one-stop shop" imaging technique.
