Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice Towards Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Among Men Aged 50 and Above.

This study aimed to investigate the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) regarding benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) among men aged 50 years and above.

A cross-sectional survey was conducted on men aged 50 years and above at four medical institutions in Beijing, China between July 1, 2023, and April 30, 2024. The demographic information and KAP scores were collected and assessed through the self-designed questionnaire.

A total of 444 valid questionnaires were collected, among which 191 respondents (43.0%) were aged between 60 and 69 years. The mean knowledge, attitude, and practice scores were 8.68 (possible range: 0-20), 32.43 (possible range: 9-45), and 38.48 (possible range: 10-50), respectively. Structural equation modeling revealed that knowledge had a significant directed effect on both attitude (β = 7.81, p < 0.001) and practice (β = 19.76, p < 0.001), and attitude had a significant directed effect on practice (β = 11.59, p < 0.001). In addition, knowledge also has an indirect effect on practice through attitude (β = 0.134, p < 0.001).

Men aged 50 and above demonstrated insufficient knowledge, positive attitude, and proactive practice regarding BPH. Clinicians should focus on educational interventions targeting older men to enhance their understanding of BPH, which could further improve attitude and self-management practice.
