NARUS 2018: Troubleshooting Scenarios - As Seen from the Assistant
Having readily available back up equipment is mandatory to ensure that the operation can go on in any possible scenario. Some of the critical technical equipment include an ethernet cable, camera cable and camera head, emergency instrument wrench, light guide for daVinchi system, blue fiberoptic cable, and monopolar and bipolar cords.
Additional tips on troubleshooting include working in a stepwise fashion, if something is wrong, don’t change everything at once, communicate to the rest of the room your steps working through the problem, and lastly, ongoing updates to the team should continue if the case progresses while you continue to troubleshoot.
Ms. Sorin concluded her talk by giving some practical solutions to specific commonly seen problems. She began with a scenario where the system does not power on. In these cases, it is important to check that all components are plugged into a working outlet. It is important to also check the circuit breaker switches of all components on the daVinchi system. If all else fails, it may be needed to perform a “hard cycle” power system. If there is trouble driving the cart, you need to make sure it is set in power steering mode, ensure there are no cords obstructing the cart, and refrain from placing the cart on sloped surfaces. When the image is foggy on the camera, aside from drying the tip of the scope with a gauze, it recommended to make sure that you have hot water to heat the scope tip. Lastly, it important to make sure that the endoscope is beyond the cannula tip, and that the insufflation is connected to a non-camera port.
