The AUA guideline on interstitial cystitis has identified Cyclosporine A as 5th tier therapy.  However, clinicians seldom use it due to concerns over side effects and efficacy.  Previous research on Cyclosporine did not clinically phenotype patients and often used Cyclosporine trough levels to determine drug exposure. 

Chronic prostate inflammation predicts symptom progression in chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain

A presentation chronic prostate inflammation symptom progression and chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome patients.  They presented the results of a 4-year longitudinal association between histological prostate inflammation in men with a negative prostate biopsy and who have a diagnosis of chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvis pain (REDUCE study).

The NHANES database was queried for all women who responded to UI questions and where age and BMI was known.  Excluded were women who underwent bot vaginal delivery and cesarean section, prior hysterectomy, prolapse, had given birth > 20 years from the time of the survey, and had given birth < 2 yrs from time of survey.

Based on these new guidelines, the authors hypothesized that the rate of VCUGs declined over time and if the VCUG were done, there would be more detection of clinically significant vesicourethral reflux.  At this one institution, a total of 8,214 VCUGs were performed and the number declined steadily over time.
