| The 2022 ASTRO Annual Meeting was host to a State of the Art session for the selection and treatment of localized prostate cancer. Karthik Meiyappan presented transcriptomic analysis of ATM expression in localized prostate cancer and its implications for radiotherapy treatment. The authors hypothesized that higher ATM expression is a predictor of differential outcomes after radiotherapy.

The authors sought to characterize and compare late GI and GU patient-reported outcomes between patients treated with either proton beam therapy or IMRT.

| During the State of the Art session for the selection and treatment of localized prostate cancer, Dr. Michael Zelefsky presented results of a study evaluating post-treatment biopsy outcomes with high dose SBRT compared to high-dose conventionally fractionated intensity-modulation radiation therapy (IMRT) for clinically localized prostate cancer. The purpose of this study was to retrospectively compare post-treatment biopsy outcomes of prostate cancer patients treated with high-dose conventionally fractionated IMRT versus high dose SBRT.

| MRI-Guided vs. Computed Tomography-Guided Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy for Prostate Cancer (MIRAGE): Primary Endpoint Analysis of a Phase III Randomized Trial

| During the State of the Art session for the selection and treatment of localized prostate cancer, Dr. Amar Kishan presented the primary endpoint analysis of MIRAGE: a phase III randomized trial of MRI-guided versus CT-guided stereotactic body radiotherapy for prostate cancer. The study hypothesis was that aggressive margin reduction from 4 to 2 mm using MR-guided radiotherapy technology would reduce acute grade 2+ GU toxicity from 29% to 14%.

The authors sought to evaluate whether heterogenous radiation therapy to the prostate with focal boost would provide a similar favorable toxicity profile without compromising oncologic outcomes.

| In this presentation, Dr. Abdenour Nabid discussed cardiovascular causes of death in patients treated for localized prostate cancer. From two trials in localized prostate cancer, cardiovascular disease represented the second cause of death. Based on Dr. Nabid and colleagues’ data, they retrieved and reviewed the clinical information on those patients labelled by investigators as dying from cardiovascular disease aiming to confirm and precisely define the cause/diagnosis of their cardiovascular death.
