An Intro to UroToday's Functional Urology Center of Excellence by Alan Wein, MD, PhD, FACS
We will include video interviews, text summaries of presentations at key meetings (prepared by those with expertise in the area and in attendance at the meeting), summaries of published articles by the authors themselves and by me, and, occasionally, referenced commentaries on currently discussed topics. Expect some of the “expert opinions” to contradict one another on certain points- this means that whatever topic is being discussed is still a matter of some controversy.
In addition, in each of the weekly editions, there is a list of recently published articles, listed by subject, whose abstracts are immediately searchable to enable you to decide if a particular article merits your reading it in its entirety. We welcome your participation by suggesting ideas for topics to be featured or discussed, individuals to be interviewed, and by submitting learned commentaries or opinions.
You might ask, what exactly is “functional urology”, and who should be designated a “functional urologist”? No two definitions or descriptions will be identical, and some may be far apart from one another. I will give you my impression and welcome your comments and critiques.
