Perspective on Molecular Characterization - Himisha Beltran

Himisha Beltran, presents the Perspective on Molecular Characterization and what we can expect looking forward over the next 24 months.  (presentation in 6:25).

Misha Beltran, MD is a medical oncologist specializing in the treatment of patients with genitourinary malignancies. Her clinical and translational research focuses on development of new treatment strategies for patients. In particular, she is studying the genetics of prostate cancer, and is involved in developing personalized treatment approaches for patients based on their cancer's specific molecular alterations. Her clinical practice and research rely on close collaborations with clinicians, scientists, and physician scientists from multiple disciplines including pathology, urology, radiology, radiation oncology, computational biology, pharmacology, and medical oncology. Most recently, she and her colleagues have expanded these clinical and research efforts across cancer types as part of our Institute for Precision Medicine at Weill Cornell.   Her research is conducted at The Beltran lab, and focused their work on  on understanding mechanisms underlying an emerging subclass of androgen-indifferent prostate cancers that develop neuroendocrine features as an adaptive response mechanism upon selective therapeutic pressure of the androgen receptor (AR).  We have used genomics and epigenomics to elucidate the molecular mechanisms driving evolution towards an AR-low state.  They are developing tissue and circulating biomarkers and novel therapeutic strategies for clinical translation.  Their mission is to make discoveries that improve the way they manage and treat patients with advanced prostate cancer.

In addition, as part of the Englander Institute for Precision Medicine and in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and clinicians, they are developing genomic and other platforms for biomarker development and clinical application across tumor types.
