The latest multimodal protocols for treatment of bladder/prostate rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) have shifted the goal of treatment from patient survival to bladder preservation. Consistently, partial resections, such as radical prostatectomy (RP), are favoured when surgery is deemed necessary.
Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is rare in adulthood, accounting for 2%-5% of adult soft tissue tumors, and less than 20% occur in genitourinary organs. Given its rarity, survival data on adult kidney, bladder, and prostate RMSs is limited.
Carcinosarcoma of the upper urinary tract is very rare. In this article, we report a case of upper urinary tract carcinosarcoma with rhabdomyoblastic differentiation showing distinct transition between the epithelial and mesenchymal components confirmed by morphology and immunohistochemistry.
We present the first published case of a pediatric robot-assisted prostatectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy for refractory prostatic embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. The patient is a 7 year old male who had been treated with three cycles of chemotherapy and radiation, who underwent prostatectomy and lymphadenectomy for a recurrent mass.
The occurrence of somatic transformation in germ cell tumour (GCT) is rare, with increased incidence in teratomatous tumours. The aim of this study was to understand the clinical outcomes of patients with metastatic GCT with somatic transformation.
A 36-year-old male was referred to our hospital with left scrotal swelling. Computed tomography revealed a massive tumor in his left scrotum. The tumor extended along the gonadal vein extraperitoneally forming a massive tumor.
The surgical approach to pediatric localized bladder/prostate rhabdomyosarcoma may change due to a new radiotherapeutic modality. We assess the impact of brachytherapy used for local tumor control on surgery and report surgical procedures and outcome.
Urothelial carcinoma of urinary bladder with divergent differentiation into rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is an extremely uncommon aggressive phenomenon. We present a case of a 74-year-old male with bladder carcinoma which metastasized to the abdominal wall as epithelioid RMS.
