CLAIR SHORES, MI USA (Press Release) - April 13, 2015 - MIU Men’s Health Foundation President Michael Lutz, M.D. was selected as a 2015 Molina Healthcare Community Champion, one of only six chosen each year. The honor includes a $1,000 grant to the MIU Men’s Health Foundation. In addition to saving men’s lives in his practice with the Michigan Institute of Urology, Lutz created and manages the MIU Men’s Health Foundation and its highly-successful signature public men’s health advocacy events, the MIU Run for the Ribbon and MIU Men’s Health Event.
Since 2009, thousands of men and their families have joined the MIU Run for the Ribbon at the Detroit Zoo to raise funds for prostate cancer research and treatment and to honor prostate cancer survivors. The MIU Men’s Health Event, launched in 2011 and held at Ford Field in Detroit each fall, has hosted more than 10,000 men and their family members, even those without health insurance, to help men take charge of their health. Under his leadership, the MIU Men’s Health Foundation has raised more than half a million dollars and has donated more than $100,000 in grant support to develop innovative treatment technologies, create new ways to provide information and support the next generation of medical professionals and offset treatment costs.
The Molina Healthcare Community Champions Awards honor individuals that inspire others through selfless contributions that positively affect the health and overall well-being of others. The Community Champions Awards were created in 200, named in honor of Molina Healthcare’s physician founder, Dr. C. David Molina.
