Dr. Kapoor receives prestigious American Urological Association award

MELVILLE, NY USA (Press Release) - October 17, 2014 - Dr. Deepak A. Kapoor, MD, President, Advanced Urology Centers of New York, is the recipient of the New York Section of the American Urological Association’s Russell W. Lavengood Award. Dr. Kapoor was chosen to receive this prestigious award for his commitment to excellence in patient care and his dedication to the advancement of urology. The Lavengood award is the highest honor the New York Section can bestow upon a member, and was created to honor the memory of Dr. Lavengood’s distinguished service and leadership in all areas of urology.

“Dr. Kapoor was chosen to receive this award because he is regarded as a thought leader and innovator in the field of urology,” said Dr. Felix Badillo, MD, FACS, President of the New York Section of the American Urological Association. “Dr. Kapoor’s commitment to quality management and socio-economic issues in medicine are nationally recognized, as is his leadership in enhancing the patient experience in healthcare.”

Dr. Kapoor, a resident of Melville, received this prestigious award at the New York Section of the American Urological Association’s Annual Members Only Meeting, held on October 1, 2014 at the New York Yacht Club in Manhattan.

“I want to thank the American Urological Association’s New York State Section for this great honor,” said Dr. Kapoor. “We have strived to enhance communication between physicians and ensuring that patients have access to high quality healthcare that is both affordable and convenient – it is gratifying and humbling to have this work recognized by my peers.”

Dr. Kapoor’s expertise includes basic science research in molecular biology as well as extensive experience in oncologic and reconstructive surgery. Under his leadership, Dr. Kapoor’s organization has become the largest comprehensive urology group practice in the United States, and is regarded as a national leader in the areas of quality management, utilization review, compliance and the development of coordinated clinical pathways. In addition to his duties with AUCNY, Dr. Kapoor is Clinical Associate Professor of Urology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai as well as Chairman of Health Policy and Immediate Past President of LUGPA.

Dr. Kapoor is a published author and lectures extensively on both clinical and business medical issues, and serves on a number of medical advisory boards, including the New York State Governor's Prostate Cancer Advisory Panel. He is the recipient of the American Urological Association's 2011 Ambrose-Reed Socioeconomic Essay Award, and continues to enjoy an active clinical practice along with his administrative duties.
