AUA 2011 - Heritability of interstitial cystitis/painful bladder syndrome symptoms in women: A twin study - Session Highlights

WASHINGTON, DC USA (UroToday.com) - Niloofar Afari and colleagues from Seattle, Washington looked at the nature vs. nurture question in IC/BPS. 118 twins reported IC/BPS symptoms. Of those with known zygosity, 10 were concordant and 80 were discordant for these symptoms. The best fitting model suggested that additive genetic effects accounted for 31% of variance, and unique environment effect accounted for 69% of the variance in IC/BPS symptoms.
