WMSM 2012 - Relationship of baseline penile curvature deformity severity and symptom bother observed in patients with Peyronie’s disease - Session Highlights

CHICAGO, IL USA (UroToday) - The PD injectable treatment collagenase clostridium histolyticum is currently under investigation in two double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase III trials.

wmsm thumbOf the 832 men enrolled in 64 sites throughout the U.S. and Australia in these two trials, 643 had a baseline deformity of 30-60ᵒ and 189 had a penile curvature (PC) deformity of 60-90ᵒ. The greater the degree of curvature, the more the patient is bothered by his condition, experiencing moderate to severe distress. Notably, half of the men with a lower degree of curvature (30-60ᵒ) were significantly bothered by PD.

This study suggests the degree of curvature is bothersome, but alone does not represent the full impact of the disease. The psycho-social component is important when managing patients with PD.
