Complex genitourinary duplication affecting neurourologic and urodynamic findings, "Beyond the Abstract," by S. M. Ghahestani

BERKELEY, CA (UroToday.com) - The authors are commended for an innovative and logical approach to this case. Such a case, with multiple malformations, poses a great challenge, even for the most astute clinician. The disadvantage of a duplicated bladder has been turned into an opportunity of native bladder tissue augmentation to counteract the urinary tract sequelae of spina bifida. Nevertheless, one expects to limit the total number of necessary surgeries and to ease each step by dealing with more anomalies in every surgical session.

The duplicated uterus and vagina will warrant another surgical ordeal this time in a previously operated abdomen. A coordinated team approach in such anomalies is a huge task. These constellations of anomalies are so varied in presentation that a universal approach can never be recommended. The literature does not provide many instances of these rare and challenging anomalies. The authors’ flexibility and creativity in individual approach to this particular patient, which had not previously been recorded in the literature, cannot be over estimated.
