Modern Prostate Cancer Imaging in Daily Practice, Plenary Session |
Biochemical Recurrence after Radical Prostatectomy
Annika Herlemann, MD
As part of a plenary presentation at the European Association of Urology Virtual Annual Meeting assessing “Modern Prostate Cancer Imaging in Daily Practice,” Annika Harlemann, MD, presented the case of a patient who developed biochemical recurrence following radical prostatectomy.

Let's Ask For Imaging
Bertrand Tombal, MD, Ph.D.
Bertrand Tombal, followed Annika Herlemann's presentation by suggesting we start with early imaging for patients with biochemical recurrence following initial local therapy. He began his talk by stating that “blind treatment” is associated with only marginal oncological benefit while there is significant toxicity.

Metastases-Directed Therapy with Surgery
Tobias Maurer, MD
As part of a plenary presentation at the European Association of Urology (EAU) Virtual Annual Meeting assessing “Modern Prostate Cancer Imaging in Daily Practice”, Tobias Mauer followed Dr. Herlemann’s presentation by suggesting we start with metastasis directed therapy with surgery for patients with biochemical recurrence following initial local therapy.

Piet Ost, MD, Ph.D.
As part of a plenary presentation at the 2020 European Association of Urology Virtual Annual Meeting assessing “Modern Prostate Cancer Imaging in Daily Practice”, Piet Ost suggested we start with metastasis directed therapy with radiotherapy for patients with biochemical recurrence following initial local therapy.

Ultrasound in Prostate Cancer Imaging: Dead or Ready to Get Started?
Christophe K. Mannaerts, MD
Christophe Mannaerts examined the role of ultrasound in prostate cancer imaging, at the 2020 European Association of Urology Virtual Annual Meeting.

What Might Genomics Add to the Decision?
Guido Jenster, Ph.D.
As part of a plenary presentation at the European Association of Urology Virtual Annual Meeting assessing “Modern Prostate Cancer Imaging in Daily Practice,” Guido Jenster examined the role of genomics to complement imaging in patients undergoing investigation for prostate cancer.

MRI in the Expert Center vs. MRI in the Community Center
Christof Kastner, BM, Ph.D., FRCS (Urol), FEBU
Christof Kastner examined the role of prostate MRI when performed in an expert center compared to a community center, addressing one of the prevailing concerns regarding the widespread use of MRI, namely the reliability.

Summary from the EAU Prostate Cancer Guidelines Panel
Nicolas Mottet, MD, Ph.D.
Nicolas Mottet, chair of the EAU Guidelines prostate cancer panel, summarized the guidelines for recurrence after radical prostatectomy. Dr. Mottet notes that there is a major difference between PSA relapse (any PSA rise following an undetectable level) and a clinically significant PSA rise, which is the best predictor for further metastases (ie. post external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) nadir PSA + 2 ng/mL).

A Peek into the Future: Artificial Intelligence and Prostate Cancer Imaging
Olivier Rouvière, MD, Ph.D.
Olivier Rouviere concluded the plenary session on "Modern Prostate Cancer Imaging in Daily Practice" by discussing the impact of artificial intelligence and prostate cancer imaging, noting that machine learning entails training a machine to discriminate prostate cancer on magnetic resonance images using pattern recognition and statistical tools.
