From the Desk of the Editor

Welcome to my blog on UroToday!  I am a genitourinary medical oncologist at the University of California – San Francisco and specialize in the management of advanced prostate cancer. I maintain a specific focus on androgen and androgen receptor (AR) interactions in the tumor as well as in the patient. The science of testosterone and prostate cancer have both exploded in the last decade, and one of my goals is to help navigate these findings through both a scientific and a patient oriented perspective.

Mostly what will be presented here are different perspectives on the biology and treatment of cancer in general, likely prostate cancer in specific, and some of my own thoughts on the role of testosterone and the AR in the management of prostate cancer….as well as patients and regular people. I’ve become very interested in the broader role of testosterone in the world, and will tap into some of the published research and my own individual perspectives on the topic. I have a book coming out on this topic called Virilty And Its Perils. A little bit of what you read here may appear in the book, but the book goes into much greater detail and relates all the science to the life stories of real human beings.
