To expand awareness for Men’s Health, MIU Men’s Health Foundation has labeled the Monday of Men’s Health Week each year as Blue Monday. This year, Blue Monday will fall on Monday, June 15, 2015.

Blue Monday is a day to promote and kick-off Men's Health Week; enhance men's health engagement, education and advocacy; demonstrate a dedicated interest in the men's health movement; and encourage health conversations between fathers and sons sooner to begin a generational legacy toward health.

As part of Blue Monday, men, women and children who wish to support the men in their lives are asked to dress in blue, and men are encouraged to plan exercise or a healthful activity to be a part of that day. Fathers should use this day to start a conversation about the importance of health with their sons. Businesses, corporations and community organizations are asked to embrace Blue Monday as part of their culture, joining employees together to support the cause.

To reverse the trend of ignoring men's health concerns and the overall medical community's failure to educate men in the role of disease prevention, healthful lifestyles and proper health maintenance, The MIU Men's Health Foundation was formed to encourage a new mentality to "Fight Like a Man" for men’s health. This initiative helps inspires a lifelong dedication to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and increases prostate cancer survivorship.

The MIU Men's Health Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization launched by the doctors of the Michigan Institute of Urology — Michigan's largest subspecialty urology practice — dedicated to promoting the awareness education, research and treatment of prostate cancer and men’s health-related issues.

To achieve these goals, The MIU Men's Health Foundation introduced Fight Like a Man International and its signature events, The Run for the Ribbon and The Men's Health event, among other initiatives.

In Metro Detroit, the Men's Health Foundation has supported thousands of men and their families touched by prostate cancer through its annual Run for the Ribbon 5k Run/Walk and provided healthcare information and screenings to more than 12,000 attendees via the annual Men's Health Event at Detroit's Ford Field in the past four years. The Foundation has allocated hundreds of thousands of dollars to health screenings, grants, events and education supporting men's health.

Since the formation of the mission in 2009, the MIU Men's Health Foundation has become a leader in men's health advocacy locally and nationally. The Foundation's local work collecting data about men’s health has attracted national attention to propel investment in healthcare strategies for men across the country.

Because a man's health affects not only himself but also his family, to expand awareness for Men's Health, the MIU Men's Health Foundation has labeled the Monday of Men's Health Week each year (this year, June 15-21) as Blue Monday.

Blue Monday is a day to promote and kick-off Men's Health Week, promote men's health engagement, education and advocacy and demonstrate a dedicated interest in the men's health movement.

As part of Blue Monday, men, women and children who wish to support the men in their lives are asked to dress in blue, and men are encouraged to plan exercise or a healthful activity to be a part of that day. Businesses, corporations and community organizations are asked to embrace Blue Monday as part of their culture, joining employees together to support the cause.

With local and national support for men's health, together, we can create the opportunity to lead the nation in prioritizing men's health and develop a cultural shift of men choosing to know about their health and fighting to protect it.
