Primary Fungal Infections

  • Blastomycosis, coccidiodomycosis, and histoplasmosis are rare and primary fungal infections of the GU tract. These are seen with increasing frequency due to AIDS, transplants, and advancing intensive care techniques.
  • Kidney, adrenals, genitalia, and prostate are the target organs
  • All these patients respond well to amphotericin B therapy and ketoconazole and/or itraconazole
