The group from Long Island Jewish presented their study looking at hemorrhage after laparoscopic partial nephrectomy and the angiographic findings in these patients. 6 of 335 patients (1.8%) had postoperative bleeding that required embolization.

The angiographic findings demonstrated a pseudoaneurysm in 4 patients and extravasation in 2. Superselective embolization was successfully performed in all patients with resolution of the bleeding. The creatinine level remained stable following the procedure.

Bleeding after a laparoscopic partial nephrectomy can be successfully managed by angioembolization, thus avoiding the need for surgical reexploration and the potential risk of nephrectomy.
