Objectives:
The various prostate biopsy methods are usually compared in terms of the diagnosis rate of prostate cancer. However, the prevalence of cancer in patients with a negative prostatic biopsy is not usually known. We determined the sensitivity and detection rate of 12-core transperineal biopsies in patients not previously investigated for prostate cancer.

We explored the rate of upgrading from biopsy to RP specimen in our contemporary cohort, and developed a model capable of predicting the probability of biopsy Gleason sum upgrading.

The standard method is to clip the artery and control the vein with an endovascular gastrointestinal anastomosis stapler. However, this device is expensive and has been reported to malfunction, leading to major complications even death. We describe an easy, quick, and cost-effective alternative technique.

Objective: Progression of hormone-refractory prostate cancer (HRPC) is associated with skeletal complications and bone pain, which contribute to deterioration in quality of life (QOL). The effects of new HRPC therapies on patients’ QOL need to be studied. Patient-based assessments that help quantify the risk-benefit profile of HRPC therapies are warranted. This review summarizes the known QOL literature and estimates the potential effect of atrasentan, a novel, selective endothelin A receptor antagonist (SERA), on the QOL of HRPC patients.
