A Multidisciplinary Approach
Atlantis Paradise Island, Bahamas As many as 1 out of every 10 patients in primary care and gyn practices experience chronic pelvic pain. Understanding the approach to the diagnosis and care for these women is important. Stressing the multi-disciplinary approach should decrease the number of unnecessary referrals and overall number of patient visits. This course will examine the scope of the problem, from epidemiology and physiology to psychological and anatomical considerations. Common culprits will be discussed, including endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, irritable bowel syndrome and vulvodynia. The inter-disciplinary faculty panel will explore management through musculoskeletal evaluation, physical therapy and pain anesthesia. Medical and surgical treatment options will be presented. Participants are invited to bring their “tough cases” to discuss with the faculty during a breakfast round table. Attendees of this workshop will gain a better insight of the various modalities available for managing patients with chronic pelvic pain. Target Audience This educational activity is intended for gynecologists, urologists, family physicians and otherpractitioners with an interest in managing their female patients with chronic pelvic pain. |
