UroToday’s mission is to create a free, credible, referenced online publication providing global open access to accurate and timely urological disease information. UroToday is dedicated to ensuring that the availability and accessibility of research material is not affected by marketing and distribution strategies used by publishers. Open Access to a global library is necessary to provide equitable access to urology and oncology education and research and Open Source Science promises more rapid advances in research through open sharing of research information at all stages of the research process. The cost of academic journals is prohibitive for physicians throughout the world. The WHO (World Health Organization) conducted a survey in 2003 and found that in 75 of the poorest countries, 56% of the medical institutions had no access to journals over the previous five years. Without OA the developing nations do not have an equal opportunity to participate in scientific research and development. Internet publishing has broadened the range of opportunities for quality research to be globally distributed and freely accessed, a process directly in line with UroToday’s goal of elevating the access to education to physicians around the globe. UroToday® is developed by world-class leaders in Urology committed to delivering translational science into the realities of medical practice. |
