CANCUN, MEXICO (UroToday.com) - Coverage of the 25th Annual World Congress of Endourology and SWL - Cancun, Mexico - Friday, November 2nd, 2007

The group from the University of Tennessee presented their study comparing 22 percutaneous (PCA) and 18 laparoscopic (LCA) renal cryoablations. In this series, the average tumor size was 3.2 cm and 2.9cm for the PCA and LCA groups respectively. Residual enhancement was similar between the groups at 9.1 % in the PCA group and 5.6% in the LCA group. These short term outcomes show that PCA has decreased procedural time, hospital stay, narcotic usage and post operative atelectasis.
