CANCUN, MEXICO (UroToday.com) - Coverage of the 25th Annual World Congress of Endourology and SWL - Cancun, Mexico - Wednesday October 31st 2007

The group from Washington University presented there results of the long term follow-up of laparoscopic renal cyst decortication for ADPKD. At 6 months follow up, 78% had greater than 50% relief of pain and this result was durable in 57% at a mean follow up of 40 months. At the same interval, 12% and 13% respectively had no reduction or an increase in pain. With > 40 months follow up, the creatinine levels remained stable and there was no change in blood pressure. Laparoscopic cyst decortication appears to provide durable pain relief in many patients with ADPKD.
