CANCUN, MEXICO (UroToday.com) - Coverage of the 25th Annual World Congress of Endourology and SWL - Cancun, Mexico - Thursday November 1st 2007

The residency training program at the University of Kentucky has found that having a laparoscopy fellow in their program actually enhances urology resident case logs in urologic laparoscopy procedures. (MP20-24) The percent of cases performed laparoscopically more than doubled after the addition of a laparoscopy fellow and there was approximately a 1% increase in the laparoscopic cases performed by residents each year since initiation of the fellowship program, over three years. This program has found the laparoscopic fellowship program to enhance the productivity of the department in addition to expanding the minimally invasive surgery experience of the residents.
