ANAHEIM, CA (UroToday.com) - The group from Portugal presented their laboratory experience with natural orifice translumenal endoscopic surgery (NOTES). They performed combined transgastric and transvesical cholecystectomies in a porcine model using no abdominal incisions, demonstrating the feasibility of this approach. Additionally, they reported success using this combined approach to remove porcine kidneys. NOTES is an exciting new frontier in minimally invasive surgery that is generating increasing levels of interest. Future studies will tell us if this is a viable approach to reducing the invasiveness of surgery.
