ANAHEIM, CA (UroToday.com) - The Cleveland Clinic group presented the initial laboratory evaluation of a new catheter based flexible robotic system (Hansen Medical). Robotic flexible ureteroscopy was performed in five pigs. Insertion into the ureter was achieved in all 10 kidneys (1 required ureteral dilation), and 85 calyces were inspected. Median time to inspect the entire collecting system was 3 minutes. Effective and efficient laser fragmented of an implanted calculus was possible. This may be the next application of robotics in urologic surgery. Clinical trials are planned in the very near future. ( ABSTR [1225] ) UroToday.com Full Conference Reports
