ANAHEIM, CA (UroToday.com) - (ABST#812 Dr. David Yee, from the University of California at Irvine, presented this groups observations with regards to the higher incidence of fossa navicularis strictures noted in patients who had a 22 F Foley placed intraoperatively to avoid inadvertent stapling of the urethra (9/131) versus only 1 of 293 patients who had an 18 F Foley placed. Perioperative parameters for each group were similar and specifically post operative catheterization time was no different. All patients had an 18 F Foley placed at the end of the procedure for a mean of 1 week. This group has discontinued the use of 22 F catheters intraoperatively in view of the 20-fold increased incidence of fossa navicularis strictures.

Authors: David S. Yee, Joel Gelman, Doug W. Skarecky, Thomas E. Ahlering, Orange, CA.
