BERKELEY, CA (UroToday.com) - Hypospadias is a congenital anomaly in which the urethral opening occurs on the ventral side of the penis, scrotum or perineum, as a result of abnormal urethral closure from 8 to 14 weeks gestation. Several conditions that are more common among infants born to women who smoke are also more common among infants with hypospadias - low birthweight, cryptorchidism, and maternal subfertility.
