ANN ARBOR, MI (Press Release) - For many patients with urinary stone disease, treatment with a calcium-channel blocker or an alpha blocker can greatly improve their likelihood of passing their urinary stones, which may help these patients avoid surgery, according to an analysis by the University of Michigan Health System.

This poster section contained 30 abstracts on the subjects of medical treatment of stone disease and metabolic evaluation. Findings from the abstracts as a whole suggests an increasing popularity in the use of alpha-blockers in the medical management of distal ureterolithiasis and the benign effect of common soft drinks on 24-hour urine parameters.
