WEST HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 28, 2003 /PRNewswire/ -- Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corporation announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a once-daily formulation of Cipro(R) XR (ciprofloxacin* extended-release tablets) for the treatment of complicated urinary tract infections (cUTIs) and acute uncomplicated pyelonephritis (AUP), or kidney infection. The new formulation can be taken once a day for 7-14 days at a dose of 1000mg.

Arginine Vasopressin and Nocturnal Polyuria Appear not to Be Significantly Related in Older Adults

BERKELEY, CA (UroToday Inc.) - Dr. T.M. Johnson II and colleagues studied 45 older adults at home and in their Clinical Research Center (CRC) with the goal of determining whether their nocturnal polyuria could be associated with abnormal arginine vasopressin (AVP) release or action. It increases during normal sleep, presumably in response to water deprivation. Since AVP increases water retention, decreases urine production and increases urine osmolality, decreased nighttime excretion may contribute to nocturia.
