American Urological Association Names New Director of Guidelines Show Comments PDF Print E-mail

BALTIMORE, January 2007 — The American Urological Association (AUA) has announced that Heddy Hubbard, Ph.D., M.P.H., R.N., F.A.A.N. will be the new Director of Guidelines for the association. Dr. Hubbard joined the AUA on December 28, 2006.

In this position, Dr. Hubbard will direct the AUA’s clinical guidelines process, including the development, updating, dissemination and assessment of the impact of guidelines. She will play a lead role in the AUA’s quality performance measurement efforts for both public and private payers and the coordination of public activities related to support of maintenance of certification (MOC) in partnership with the American Board of Urology

Dr. Hubbard has an impressive work history and direct, extensive experience in areas of vital importance to AUA's guidelines operation. For more than 16 years, she has served as a lead clinician at the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), where she held positions including Acting Director of the Center for Outcomes and Effectiveness Research (COER), and Associate Director of the Center for Outcomes and Evidence (COE). In addition, she was the Agency's Senior Nurse Advisor and a lead on the Health and Human Services patient safety legislation. Dr. Hubbard has published in the areas of newborn screening, nursing research and education, and primary care.

“Dr. Hubbard brings a wealth of experience with her to the AUA,” said AUA Associate Executive Director of Health Policy Beth Kosiak, Ph.D. “I am confident that her clinical background, government contacts and extensive management experience, combined with her newly minted Ph.D. focused on outcomes research, will be a huge asset to the AUA's guidelines program.”

Dr. Hubbard holds a bachelors degree in nursing from the University of Maryland, a master’s degree in public health from The Johns Hopkins University, and was recently awarded a Ph.D. in outcomes research from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS).
