BERKELEY, CA (UroToday.com) - The basic design of the current artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) manufactured by American Medical Systems (AMS 800) has been unchanged since 1983. A 30% surgical revision rate has been reported by some authors which is largely due to continued stress incontinence particularly at times of increased abdominal pressure and after cuff erosion or urethral atrophy secondary to high cuff pressures.
