NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Treatment with sildenafil (Viagra), a popular drug for erectile dysfunction (ED), does not adversely affect exercise tolerance in men with chronic stable angina, according to a recent report. In fact, the drug may have some beneficial effects.

Erectile dysfunction may be related to generalized atherosclerosis which afflicts the penile vessels. Dr. Y. Kawanishi and his co-workers at Takamatsu, Japan, Red Cross Hospital used fundoscopic evaluation of the retina to detect possible atherosclerosis in a study of 72 men with erectile dysfunction (ED).
