CANCUN, MEXICO (UroToday.com) - Coverage of the 25th Annual World Congress of Endourology and SWL - Cancun, Mexico - Friday, November 2nd, 2007 The groups from Columbia presented their study looking at laparoscopic renal cryoablation (LCA). They looked at 51 PCA in 44 patients and 51 LCA in 44 patients. They stratified the tumors by size into those less than 3 cm (n=23; mean 1.8 cm) and those ≥ 3 cm (n=21; mean 4.0). The tumors ≥ 3 cm had a significantly higher rate of morbidity. These larger tumors occurred in patients that were older and had higher ASA scores. Complications were seen in 13 patients (62%) with two deaths in this group, while no complications were seen with the smaller tumors. The EBL for the larger tumors was 398cc compared to 78cc for the smaller lesions. For renal tumors greater than 3cm, LCA had significantly more EBL, and major complications compared to tumors less than 3 cm. Session: KIDNEY: NSS: Cryo/RFA/HIFU/etc.
