Laparoscopic Hellstrom Technique an Alternative to Dismembered Pyeloplasty for Some Patients with Ureteropelvic Junction Obstruction and Crossing Vessels

Meng and Stoller report in the September issue of Urology on 9 patients who had symptomatic ureteropelvic junction (UPJ) obstruction associated with anterior crossing vessels. They chose to treat them by vessel transposition, the Hellstrom technique, rather than laparoscopic pyeloplasty. The twenty-six remaining patients underwent standard laparoscopic pyeloplasty.
