UIJ - Why Become a Reviewer Print E-mail

The Editorial Team of UroToday International Journal would like to encourage all readers with knowledge about clinical urology and/or basic research in urology and at least a fundamental understanding of research design to consider becoming a reviewer. The quality of the journal publications depends on the willingness of professional volunteers to serve in this important role.

Why serve as a reviewer?
 • Contribute to the growth of the urology profession
 • Be the first to read cutting-edge research
 • List reviewing as service on your professional vita
 • Get insight into the peer-review process
 • Communicate with authors from around the world
 • Work with the UroToday International Journal Editorial Board and Editorial Team
 • Have the chance to become an Editorial Board member

How many manuscripts will I be asked to review?
You will be given an abstract of the manuscript when you are invited to review it, and you have the option of accepting or declining the review.  If you accept it, you will usually have 30 days to complete the process.  Many reviewers write 2 to 4 manuscript reviews per year; Editorial Board members complete more.  Each manuscript is typically sent to 2 reviewers.

How will I know what to do?
Instructions for how to write the review have recently been revised and will provide detailed information for all reviewers.

The review has 2 parts:
 1.  comments for the author;
 2.  confidential comments for the editor, including a rating
of the manuscript on a 4-point scale.

You will evaluate the manuscript for:
 • Adequacy of the rationale for the study or report
 • Accuracy and scope of the literature reviewed
 • Appropriateness of the research design, data analysis, and
interpretation of results for research investigations
 • Organization and clarity of writing
 • Overall significance or novelty of the document's contents

How do I become a reviewer?
 1.  Go to www.edmgr.com/uij and create or update your profile.
 2.  Respond to the question "Available as a Reviewer?" at the end of the section
called Institution Related Information by clicking on the "yes" button.
 3.  Complete the section called Areas of Interest or Expertise so that you
          are sent appropriate manuscripts.
