European Urology - Are We Entering the Era of Truly Minimally Invasive Destructive Techniques for the Treatment of Urologic Tumours and Will These Therapies Stay in Urologists’ Hands?

Volume 51, Issue 2, Pages 293-295 (February 2007) The role of testosterone in the pathophysiology of prostate cancer (pCA) remains elusive and the conundrum is yet to be solved. After Huggins and Hodges proved that testosterone reduction by castration or oestrogen treatment caused regression of metastatic disease, the detrimental effect of testosterone administration in patients at risk of or with pCA was inferred [1].

European Urology - Do We Need the Final Results of the ERSPC Trial?
Thursday, 01 February 2007
Volume 51, Issue 2, Pages 291-292 (February 2007) The oncologic community eagerly awaits the final results of the two important international screening studies for prostate cancer (Prostate, Lung Colorectal and Ovary [PLCO] and European Randomized Study of Screening for Prostate Cancer [ERSPC]). In the report by de Vries et al. in the current issue of the journal [1], the investigators of the ERSPC trial publish for the first time results regarding overall and disease-specific survival in the screening arm of the Rotterdam section of the trial compared to historical controls.
