Thursday, June 16, 2005 - Vancouver, British Columbia - Protox Therapeutics Inc. announced today that it has filed a provisional patent application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to protect the use of its modified Aerolysin technology platform for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), more commonly known as an enlargement of the prostate.

"Our first product in development, PSA-PAH1, has shown promising efficacy and safety results in animal models of localized prostate cancer and we are moving forward with our plans to file an Investigational New Drug application with the FDA for this indication," said Dr. Fahar Merchant, President & CEO of the Company. "During these studies we also observed dose dependant reduction in prostate size, suggesting that PSA-PAH1 could be used for treatment of BPH. While we have filed a patent to protect this discovery, we will also need additional pre-clinical studies before we commit to this second indication."

ABOUT PROTOX: Protox Therapeutics Inc. is developing novel therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and other indications by engineering the naturally occurring bacterial toxin Aerolysin, which kills cells by forming pores in them. The Company believes that its engineering approach will produce targeted therapeutics that may have greater efficacy and fewer side effects than existing treatments.
