BERKELEY, CA (UroToday.com) - Treatment with testosterone (T) benefits sexual function even in men in the low-normal range according to a study presented at the Annual Research Meeting of the Sexual Medicine Society of North America. "Even men with low-normal T levels benefit from treatment," lead author, Dr. Abe Morgantaler of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School reported. In this retrospective review of 211 men with sexual dysfunction, patients were divided into three groups based on T levels: <200ng/dL, n=26; 200-300ng/dL, n=64; and 300ng/dL, n=121. Dr. Morgantaler commented that improvement in libido was seen in 61.5, 96.6 and 29.8% in the three groups respectively. Erections improved in 46.2, 45.3, and 73.6% as well. "One message from this study is that men with sexual symptoms of hypogonadism respond well to T replacement across a wide range of serum T levels, "Dr. Morgantaler concluded, and 58.7% of men in the low-normal group continued with T replacement.
