Intracavernous Penile Injection Is The Most Reliable Way To Evaluate Peyronie's Disease Show Comments PDF Print E-mail

BERKELEY, CA (UroToday.com) - The degree of penile curvature in PD is an important factor in allowing for penetration during sexual intercourse. This may be important in the decision to follow a more conservative vs. aggressive (surgical) option. In order to determine the concordance between three commonly used methods to evaluate penile curvature in PD, researchers performed intracavernous injection (ICI) with a vasoactive agent, vacuum erection device (VED) induced erection, and at-home photography and compared results.7 A total of 66 PD men were studied with varying curvature profiles (dorsal, 73%; ventral, 15%; and lateral, 11%). On ICI, the mean curvature was 49°; VED was 33°, and photography, 34°. Photography was discordant when ED was present. These authors suggest ICI as the best method to evaluate curvature in PD.
