Most drugs have a mechanistic “target”, such as the enzymes 5-α reductase in the treatment of BPH or 5-phosphodiesterase in the treatment of erectile dysfunction. However, in the current presentation, “targeted therapy” is defined as molecular targeting.

This international, open-label trial was undertaken to provide sunitinib to patients (pts) with advanced RCC who might benefit from therapy, but who had no access to the drug prior to regulatory approval in their countries.

This titration study allowed individual patients to escalate to higher doses of sorafenib. Trial endpoints included response rate (RR), progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS).
